Joseph Lee

Hi, I’m Joseph, founder of ZEAL Strength & Performance and co-founder of Move With Maggy! My fitness journey began in 2009 when I first joined a neighbourhood gym. In 2011, I took up Brazilian Jiujitsu. After a year of training, I joined my first tournament and I was hooked ever since.

In 2016, I woke up one day with extreme lower back pain. The pain was so excruciating to the extent where I lost almost all control of my lower body extremities.

I was rushed to the hospital and was admitted for a week. After an MRI scan on the lower back, the doctors found out that I have a disc herniation on the L4 and L5 region of my lumbar spine. They advised me to abandon the idea of training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu again and proposed the idea of going under the knife but I declined as I was looking for noninvasive treatments instead.

While l was bedridden in the hospital, I spent my time researching for gyms who provided post-injury rehabilitation and sports performance services and found an establishment that provides all of the above. The people running the gym was team of world-class strength and conditioning coaches and within 3 months, I was back on the mats training again. After 6 months of consistent training, I was back competing again and even won silver in the Philippines National Pro Jiujitsu Tournament.

The experience above made me realise my passion in fitness. I decided to pursue my Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (CES) certification course from NASM, Certified Kettlebell Coach (CKC) from Integrated Training Institute, Animal Flow Level 1 Certification, and PHS Certified PowerPlate Trainer (CPPT), while pursuing my Bachelors in Management.

I’ve also worked at the same gym where I did all of my post-injury rehabilitation and sports performance training for a year to garner more experience.

The amount of knowledge that I’ve gained and experienced throughout the years have significantly contributed my ability to coach my first few clients. From there, I realised the satisfaction of seeing my clients progress physically was much more fulfilling than my own. Since then, I’ve committed myself to help more individuals to achieve their fitness goals.
